The world of medicine and healthcare has come an incredibly long way over the centuries, and there is no clearer proof of this than in the context of pregnancy and childbirth.

Whether this is your first pregnancy, or else you are already the proud mother of one child or more, when explained by your medical doctor they are planning a c-section, you will understandably want to know more.

Why Are Some C-Sections Planned?

There are any number of reasons why you or a loved one has been advised that the safest way to deliver the baby is through a cesarean section. Your doctor will have advised you on the situation and why this is the best way to proceed.

Common medical reasons why a cesarean section may be advised or even insisted upon include the following:

  • You may have contracted an infection such as genital herpes

  • You have high blood pressure or diabetes

  • There is an issue with the placenta whereby a cesarean is safer

  • You are having twins or triplets

  • Your pelvic bone is too narrow to give birth naturally

  • You already have a c-section with another baby

It is also worth pointing out that, in the case of emergency cesarean sections, mothers are taken directly to the operating theater and given an anesthetic and epidural.

Preparing for a Planned C-Section

Once the date of your cesarean has been set, your nurses and midwife will do everything within their power to ensure that all your wishes and needs are met, and this is where your birth plan comes in

Consider any music you would like to have played during the c-section, asking whether it would be possible for the screen to be lowered so you are able to see your baby being born on the monitor and asking for everyone to be quiet when the baby is born so they hear your voice first.

If, either at the time or upon reflection later, you feel you could be eligible to file a botched c-section lawsuit, then contact a reputable and reliable law firm to find out more.

How to Look After Your Body After a C-Section

It is not just your baby who needs looking after; if you have given birth by cesarean section, you must also look after yourself and the wound

Naturally, as with any surgical procedure, it is essential that you keep the wound clean and sanitized to prevent any infection, and it is more than likely that, upon being discharged from the hospital, you will be provided with the tools to do so.

Other helpful ways of taking care of your body after the operation include wearing comfortable, fresh cotton and baggy clothes, both on the top and bottom, so as not to aggravate the scar and conducting a brief examination of the entire area every morning and evening.

Your medical doctor may also suggest you take a painkiller if your wound is particularly sore. Still, you must check with a medical professional before taking any medication whatsoever, especially if you are breastfeeding.
