Is it time for a new bedroom dresser? If you've already started browsing online, you probably have a pretty good idea of the options available - and it can be really overwhelming. Rather than read through every product description looking for the right furniture, decide which key features you are looking for. You can then scan through the dressers much faster and refine your search to narrow your options.

Here are some of the most popular features you should consider when browsing a bedroom dresser catalog

Felt-lined top drawers

Felt-lined top drawers are best if you want your dresser to do double duty. Many women today don't have enough jewelry to warrant a jewelry armoire or jewelry box. Men also have delicate items such as cuff links and watch collections that need to be stored safely. Felt-lined drawers give you a safe place to store those items where they won't get jostled or catch on the bottom of the drawer.

Large cedar-lined bottom drawer

Fluffy sweaters are making a comeback, and you need a place to store them free of pests, moisture, and other hazards to knits. Once upon a time, such items were kept in cedar chests or trunks, but this is becoming less and less common. Instead, you can make your dresser work harder for you by getting one with a cedar-lined bottom drawer large enough to store several bulky sweaters or soft knit throws.

Mounted mirror

Again, you want your furniture to address as many needs as possible so that you can buy fewer pieces at a lower overall cost for decorating your bedroom. A mirror mounted to the dresser is a good way to add versatile and useful mirrors without needing additional space and a lower up-front cost. Mirrors should mount to both the dresser and the wall to prevent injury.

Constructed of engineered wood

Engineered wood is a very stable, strong material made by compressing sawdust and other wood byproducts to form a sturdy, bulky, but lightweight piece of furniture. Dressers that are made from engineered wood will last much longer than those made of particle board or lightweight hollow metal. But you'll still be able to move the dresser around easily when you redecorate next time.

Sturdy drawer construction

The first thing to go out on a new dresser is the drawers. The more weight you put on the bottom of the drawer, the faster it will decay until it simply comes away from the drawer's frame. If you have bought the cheapest dresser available, it will be irreparable once the drawers start giving way.

Look for drawers made of real, stained wood connected to the drawer's frame with a tongue and groove construction. When the drawers do start wearing out, you'll be able to easily repair or replace the bottom of the drawers when they are made in this fashion.

Now that you have an idea of what to look for, start searching online for your next bedroom dresser.
