HTC Windows Phone 8 with 5-inch Screen Smartphone Canceled; Resolution Reported to Be A Probem, Report

A plan for HTC to develop a future five-inch screen smartphone has been canned.

HTC and Microsoft has planned to create a smartphone for the latest Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system with a five-inch screen, however, according to Bloomberg, those plans are no more.

According to the report, the Windows Phone 8 software does not support resolutions as high as the Android platform.

Windows Phone 8 devices has a resolution of 720 pixels for horizontal lines, down compared to 1,080 lines seen on an Android device.

According Bloomberg's source, HTC concluded that a Windows Phone 8 phone with a larger screen would not be competitive against HTC's Android devices, Samsung's, or others. A notable example can be the Droid DNA by HTC, which features a resolution of 1,920x1,080.

HTC does have a Windows Phone 8 device on the market with its HTC Windows Phone 8X, which features a screen size of 4.3-inches and a pixel resolution of 1,280x720.

HTC still develops five-inch screen devices, but for the Android mobile operating system.

HTC or Microsoft has not yet commented on the matter.
