The Samsung Galaxy Note III is on the way, and it looks as if consumers are in for a screen size upgrade next go around, with a new 6.3-inch OLED display, according to 'local parts suppliers' close to Korea Times.
It's early yet, and no other specs have been leaked at this time, but expect a steady stream of unofficial information in the coming weeks and months. The Galaxy Note II continues to perform well in the marketplace, reaching 5 million units sold by the end of November alone, reports International Business Times.
While Samsung's tablet and smartphone market share grows, the Korean company is also making a concerted effort to wean itself off of LCD displays.
"We can't resist but to actively respond to the new market trend. We will invest in conventional LCDs. But the investment won't be too high. Restructuring is under way," says former chief of Samsung Technology Center Kim Ki-nam
The Korean Times also spoke to a higher up from one of Samsung's local parts supplier, who adds, "The global LCD industry is seeing signs of a major shift as Samsung is spending less on conventional LCDs. With money saved from LCD restructuring, the firm plans to spend more on OLED and flexible displays. Profitability is the top priority for Samsung's display-making business next year."
The Galaxy Note 2 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and features a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.
