Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy spoke of the tragedy of "unspeakable terms" at 3:37 pm. EST.

Malloy's speech comes after at least 26 people were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, with 18 reported to be children.

Malloy has asked everyone around the world to keep those affected by the shootings in their prayers.

Malloy commented he has spoken to President Barack Obama and thanked him for his support in dealing with the matter.

The Connecticut governor spoke that he has been speaking to the families who have children attending the elementary school.

Lt. Paul Vance stated the incident is an active and ongoing investigation.

"Upon realizing the intensity and difficulty of the situation," according to Lt. Vance, the police department reached to other police forces to assist.

According to Vance, 18 children were found dead in the school, while two were carried to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Six adults were killed in the school.

"We need to answer every single question as to why this incident occurred," said Malloy, adding they will be working without a timeframe to understand why such an incident took place.

In regards to how many shooters there were, only one, according to Vance, but they are still investigating.

Vance said all those killed in the school were located in one section of the school.

Vance concluded the press conference at 3:47 p.m., but noted another press conference will take place in about an hour.
