Could there be a future for Ann Curry on a cable news network?

Following her firing from the NBC morning show Today, Curry has been reporting from the field but a source says she could be offered a primetime show on CNN.

According to the New York Post's Page Six, a source claims that the new president of CNN Worldwide was a "headliner" for the cable news channel's primetime schedule, such as Rachel Maddow or Bill O'Reilly, which has been falling at times in third place behind Fox News Channel and MSNBC.

The new CNN President, Jeff Zucker, is highly familiar with NBC as he recently the president and CEO of NBCUniversal from 2007 to 2010. Zucker was also the field producer for Today and was promoted to executive producer in 1992. With Zucker leading Today, he introduced the outdoor summer concert series that still exists today and made the morning show move to its current location at Rockefeller Plaza in 1994.

According to the Page Six source, "[Zucker] cannot allow the low ratings at CNN to continue . . . so he can't hire a nobody. Curry fits that CNN-smarty-pants-foreign-affairs type."

"Package her experience as a news anchor for 14 years at NBC with the sympathy that's remained out there for her after the way the Today show treated her," added the source, referring to how Curry will attract appeal with audiences.

The rumors come as Curry was ranked in MAD magazine's "Dumbest People, Events, and Things in 2012." Curry placed 12th following the events taking place on Today, noting the lack of chemistry with co-anchor Matt Lauer, the fall of viewership ratings, and rival Good Morning America becoming the number one rated morning program against NBC and CBS.

The Post did note from CNN, "There is no shortage of rumors about what Jeff will do. He doesn't start until late January, and any speculation at this point is just silly."

Meanwhile, a NBC representative stated, "Ann Curry is under contract with NBC News."

Should Curry make the move, if offered, to CNN? Let us know in the comments section below.
