The Huawei P8 did well when it came out last April, so it seems only natural for people to take it up a notch and set the bar higher for its successor, the Huawei P9.

The Huawei P9 was believed to be already in the works as early as May of this year, and initial word about the features it would carry include a fingerprint scanner and something that would run on the company’s Kirin 950 chipset.

In October, there were leaked photos of white and gold labels for the rear camera, which had two cutouts, that according to Phone Arena seemed to be meant for a laser auto focus sensor.

Such should translate for better focusing and high-quality images, but overall, it hints that the Huawei P9 will be coming out with a dual camera set-up. It is believed that one of the cameras will be 16 MP.

Now, it seems that all that talk about the dual camera set-up has been confirmed after the specs of the device came out in the open.

Aside from the camera, XiaomiToday notes that the Huawei P9 will also feature the following:
• 5.2-inch AMOLED screen (possibly 1440x2560 resolution)
• Kirin 950 chipset
• Octa-core CPU
• Mali-T880 MP4 GPU
• 4 GB RAM

The latest leaked photos likewise seem to indicate that there could be two variants coming out. Leaked labels baring “LTE” and “DELUX” have been spotted, which could indicate that such is the Huawei P9 Max.

If this is true, there will be a glaring difference in the specs. The ones mentioned above are likely meant for the Huawei P9 LTE version, while the Huawei P9 Max version could be primed up with the following:

• 6.2-inch QHD display (1440 x 2560 resolution)
• Kirin 950 chipset
• 4 GB or RAM
• 64 GB of internal storage
• Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box

Right now, it is up for confirmation if there will indeed be two variants of the Huawei P9. However, the only thing that seems to make sense right now is that the device will indeed debut on March 2016, as mentioned by GSM Arena.

With the Huawei P8 launching last April, a look at the timeline does seem to make the March release date sensible.

If everything stays on course and the leaks consistent, it may be wise to keep an eye out for the Huawei P9 since its likely next stop will be at TENAA for the required certification.
