An Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC has reportedly been leaked. A new report claims that the company will be updating a handful of its smartphones by the first two quarters of 2016.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC leak was made by frequent HTC tipster and Twitter source @LlabTooFer. The leak outlined which smartphones will be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update and when. However, as noted by CNET, LLabTooFer's alleged document isn't an internal one, but rather a collated version of rumors on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC, via sources that predict the release date of the updates.

The latest report was reportedly based on HTC's previous updates. In the document allegedly showing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC, the company's more popular mobile phones will be updated first.

During the first quarter of 2016, HTC One M9+ and One E8 will reportedly be receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Joining them is the Butterfly 3, which is HTC's international, high-end smartphone. Trailing behind the aforementioned devices' updates are the Butterfly 2, the Desire 826, 820 and 626 models, which is predicted to get updates by the second quarter of 2016.

HTC's Desire EYE is also speculated to receive the Android 6.1 Marshmallow update, pending evaluations.

Meanwhile, the updates will also be offering HTC's newer versions on its custom Sense interface.

There is one big takeaway however in the rumored timeline on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC. If the rumors are true, 2013's One M7 will not be betting any Marshmallow in the future at all. Since the device didn't receive the Android 5.1 and 6.0 updates, then it's likely that it won't be getting any 6.0.1 update. The chart from LabTooFer says that the best that the One M7 could get is the Android version 5.0.2 with HTC Sense 6.0.

However, as reported by Slash Gear, critical security updates is reportedly still possible for the device.

Among the highlighted features of the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is the Google Now on Tap, as well as Android Pay for mobile payments.

As for HTC's response to the recent rumors, the Taiwanese manufacturer has not declined to make any response. The OEM has generally kept mum about recent updates, a surprising move given its history.

As in every rumor on the internet, this report on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC is not set in stone. Nothing is still official until the Taiwanese company releases an announcement. Things could still change, but at least users have something to hold on to now.
