Samsung fans continue to speculate about the features and capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S7, although the handset may not be out until the first half of 2016. There are rumors that the next flagship model will feature a powerful Snapdragon 820chipset, a retina scanner and fast charging speed.

Wall Street Journal stated that Samsung is also considering a retina scanner to some models of the Galaxy S7, although there might be changes to the feature. Overall, the S7 will introduce a number of enhancements although it will not be very much different to the Galaxy S6. There are rumors that the new smartphone will launch together with the Galaxy S7 Edge, a premium curved-screen model.

The two models may become available in the middle of March 2016. Samsung might officially announce the new products at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain late in February. The release date of the S7 is expected to be much earlier compared to its predecessor’s launch in 2015 with the objective to boost sales while the devices are still popular from the recent announcement.

Based on the same report by Wall Street Journal, the changes in the Galaxy S7 will be less striking compared to the changes provided by Samsung with the Galaxy S6 Edge. The appearance of the S7 will most likely be similar to the S6 while new features might be inspired by those already existing in other available smartphones. There might be a pressure-sensitive display, USB Type-C support, SD card slot and a retina scanner. The camera will further be improved for low light situations. This time, the camera will be flushed with the rear of the phone, compared to the S6 shooter which bulged at the back.

Computer World revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S7 may also be powered by the fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which will bring back the storage expansion slot that the Galaxy S5 had. There are also talks that the retail price of the S7 will be cheaper by as much as 10% of the starting price of the S6. The fast-charge capability may allow the device to fully charge in under 30 minutes.

Patrick Moorhead, a Moor Insights & Strategy analyst, said that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset may be the most significant feature that will compel users to opt for the S7 instead. The pressure-sensitive display and fast charging will be other helpful features that will let consumers decide.
