The Sony Xperia Z6 release date probably won't be until late 2016, but that doesn't stop rumors about the new features of Sony's next flagship phone from circulating.

Not much is known about the Sony Xperia Z6, but according to Hue Wire, word on the grapevine is that the smartphone will sport a pressure-sensitive screen technology, akin to that of the iPhone 6S and the Galaxy S7.

Could this mean that the anticipated Sony Xperia Z6 could take down the iPhone 7, or even the Galaxy S7?

Early Sony Xperia Z6 rumors have mentioned a Force Touch screen on the phone, similar to the 3D touch screen on Apple's iPhone 6S.

While this is the only rumored feature the phone is said to have copied from the iPhone 7, the so-called Sony Xperia Z6 also boasts of other high-tech features that would rival other top-of-the-line smartphones.

One feature in particular is the camera.

The mobile will likely take a cue from its predecessor and feature a fingerprint scanner as an additional security feature. It will also reportedly have Optical Image Optimization and HDR features that will boost camera autofocus performance.

It's also likely that Sony won't change much of the Xperia Z6 camera since the Z5 already has a stunning 23-megapixel snapper. In addition, Xperia Z1, Z2, Z3 and Z3+ all have 21-megapixel cameras, meaning there could be two other new models before Sony upgrades its optics.

As for the Sony Xperia Z6's processor, it is expected to come in Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820, much like most of 2016's upcoming flagships phones.

According to Recombu, there have been rumors that the Japanese company might try and create its own processor for its Xperia Z6, much like what Samsung did with its Exynos chipset in the Galaxy S6. However, the report said that Sony will likely stick with 2016's Snapdragon 820 chipset, since performance and efficiency have already been improved greatly.

Meanwhile, the design of the Sony Xperia Z6 will reportedly stick with its usual Omnibalance stunner, which features high-end metal frames, top-of-the-line waterproofing and angled corners.

It is expected that the Z6 will also have a Compact version, since the Z5 came with one. In addition, critics and fans have raved about the compact version.

Meanwhile, Techno Buffalo reported that Sony's lead designer and art director Rikke Gertsen Constein revealed in a previous interview that the company is already in the conceptualization and development stages for its next set of flagship smartphones for the upcoming years until 2018.

The Sony Xperia Z6 release date will likely be around September 2016 at the huge IFA expo in Berlin, as Recombu noted.
