Sports fans will be happy to hear that NBC Sports and Yahoo! Sports have announced a new collaborative relationship which aims to provide original content, comprehensive live streaming of events, and fantasy sports.

The official statement notes that both news agencies will maintain their own websites and properties, and that the nature of this merger is to provide complimentary experiences as opposed to a consolidated one.

"Through our growing television and digital platforms, the Yahoo! Sports partnership dramatically expands the digital reach of NBC Sports around the biggest sporting events. We are committed to continually growing this alliance for the benefit of both parties, our sports-property partners, and, most importantly, sports fans," says NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus.

Notable commentators that will be joining forces are Mike Florio, Bob Costas, Adrian Wojnarowski, and Dan Wetzel.

Vice president of Yahoo! Global Media Ken Fuchs states, "Passionate fans need news and analysis about their favorite teams in real time, and they want access to that information no matter where they are. We're thrilled to combine Yahoo!'s fantasy offerings, product innovation and editorial authority with NBC's broadcast coverage of live sports events and award-winning on-air talent. We think users will love the result."

The partners promise new original video programming for the web to produce video segments during NFL season, a daily and weekly NFL web show, and a weekly college recruiting show.
