"Iron Man 4's" release date has been a debated topic for quite a while now. The mystery of whether there will be an "Iron Man 4" has only been solved when Robert Downey Jr. answered Ellen Degeneres in a recent interview.

Apparently, there will indeed be an "Iron Man 4" film sometime in the future. However, the question remains on whether Robert Downey Jr. will be reprising his role as the robotic superhero.

When RDJ appeared in "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and hinted at the making of an "Iron Man 4", many speculations made their rounds on the internet as to when the release date will be. The 50-year-old actor may have beaten around the bush at first but he did confirm the film, saying "yes" to DeGeneres' question.

Previous reports claimed that the "Iron Man 4" release date and movie production were put on hold since Disney is negotiating the salary of Downey, who wanted higher pay due to the success of the first three "Iron Man" flicks.

Cross Map claimed that Downey's negotiations with the studios began since 2014, back when Marvel Cinematic Universe started discussing the "Iron Man 4" plot.

According to Realty Today, the actor's demand for a higher pay raise was also due to the fact that he had more starring roles than most members of the Avengers, except for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). This has resulted in "Iron Man 4" rumors that Downey could be replaced with a younger actor, as Disney and Marvel could disagree with Downey's rumored $100 million per film demand.

However, it is worth noting that only one of the "Iron Man" films made critical acclaim. Even if the criticisms had nothing to do with Downey's acting abilities, he still could be replaced with a new and younger actor for the "Iron Man 4" release date.

According to Movie News Guide, rumor has it that Ty Simpkins of "Iron Man 3" and "Jurassic World" (Harley Keener) could take over as the young "Iron Man" since in the third film, Tony Stark had entrusted the kid with his suit. It's possible that Robert Downey Jr. may still appear for the "Iron Man 4" release date, but only as a mentor to Keener instead of the actual superhero.

Meanwhile, Gywneth Paltrow has been confirmed to reprise her role as Stark's wife and Starks Industries CEO Pepper Potts for the "Iron Man 4" movie. A new Mandarin has also been rumored to appear, whose rings could be a link to the Infinity stones and Thanos, who could manipulate him for universal domination.

Many details remain unknown about the "Iron Man 4" release date. For now, fans will have to keep on hoping that RBD will return and the fourth film will appear soon. More details are expected as soon as Marvel makes official announcements.
