Ed Sheeran in a "Bridget Jones" movie? Why not?

The guy is British, and he's known for his romantic troubadour tendencies. It's hard to see why Jones, as played by Renee Zellweger, won't like him or his music.

"The 'A-team' and 'Thinking Out Loud' singer posted a behind-the-scenes picture on Instagram today while on set," The Telegraph reported. "The selfie may not give much about the film away, but it features - albeit a little obscurely - Miss Zellweger herself."

The musician captioned the snap with a message about him working as an actor in "Bridget Jones' Baby," hence the buzz over his involvement in the movie.

"It is not yet known whether Ed will be playing himself or a fictional character in the comedy, which also stars Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey," MailOnline said.

Sheeran got observers speculating about his involvement in the third installment of the hit movie series back in August, after film crew were seen recording his concert at Dublin, Ireland. Zellweger's stunt double was also seen sitting on the shoulders of an unidentified man in the audience at the same event.

"'Bridget Jones's Baby' is a follow-up to 2004 film 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,'" The Telegraph said. "Unlike the first two installments in the series, it is rumoured to be based on author Helen Fielding's columns rather than her latest novel."

Hugh Grant will reportedly not return in this installment. However, it appears he has been ably replaced by "McDreamy."

This is not Sheeran's first acting gig. He had appeared in "Undateable" as himself, and had made a legit acting debut on "The Bastard Executioner" as "the sadistic protégé of a church leader," Entertainment Weekly said.

However, the medieval TV series was pulled only after six episodes, ending Sheeran's stint on the show.

"Bridget Jones 3" began film production just last month in London. Zellweger only spoke about the sequel then, saying that the project is "a nice reunion with old friends."

"It's always wonderful to be back in London and I love this character so it's been a real treat to get to revisit it again," she told E! News, later admitting she did not think part three would be green lighted.

Details about the upcoming film are scant, especially considering the fact that, unlike the previous two films, there was no direct book reference to base the movie on.

It can be recalled that Jones and Mark Darcy, Firth's character, got engaged in the last part of the previous film. The fate of the duo's love affair remains to be seen, although some observers who spotted the pair shooting a scene involving an infant speculated that they may be parents to a new bundle of joy in part three.
