The creator of "Star Wars" revealed which among the characters he conjured he'd most like to be. Surprisingly, it isn't Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi, or even Yoda.

"Jar Jar Binks," he replied after being asked in an interview with Vanity Fair.

"Binks is widely considered to be the galaxy far far away's most disliked character, a sentiment that Lucas does not support," Time noted.

It can be recalled that the director had defended Binks in previous interviews when the Gungan's likability, or lack of such thanks to his bumbling demeanor and unusual speech patterns, was panned.

"I can't even begin to tell you how much of an influence Disney has had on me," Lucas revealed in August this yearat the Disney D23 expo. "I will say one secret that nobody knows: Not many people realize that Goofy was the inspiration for Jar Jar Binks."

"I know that you will look at him differently now," he went on, as noted by Vulture. "It's pretty obvious, actually, but, um, I love Goofy and I love Jar Jar."

Could this be because Lucas sees himself in Binks?

Talk about Binks and the criticisms that the character inspired led the director to discuss why he decided to "break up" with the "Star Wars" franchise.

"You go to make a movie and all you do is get criticised, and people try to make decisions about what you're going to do before you do it," he revealed, as quoted by The Guardian. "And it's not much fun. You can't experiment. You have to do it a certain way. I don't like that, I never did. I started out in experimental films and I want to go back to experimental films."

"The issue was ultimately, they looked at the stories and they said, 'We want to make something for the fans,'" he explained. "People don't actually realize it's actually a soap opera and it's all about family problems - it's not about spaceships."

"So they decided they didn't want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, 'fine.... I'll go my way and I let them go their way'," he added, as told to CBS News.

The J.J. Abrams-directed "The Force Awakens" did not involve Lucas - a fact that the director clarified by comparing it to the aftermath of a breakup, where there should be no post-split phone calls and drive-bys.
