'Sherlock Holmes 3' to Have a Time Travel Concept? [Release Date, Cast, Plot & Rumors]

Currently, there has not been any news on the story for "Sherlock Holmes 3." While the movie has been confirmed, the script apparently is still in the early stages.

According to Crossmap, one strange, yet completely possible idea, has been pitched by the unlikeliest of people. Jude Law, who plays Watson in the two films, pitched that the duo of Holmes and Watson actually travel either forward or backward in time via a time machine.

According to Law, putting the pair in an era that neither of them is comfortable in would make for a good movie. The British actor stated that the possibilities are endless, and what a treat it would be to see Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock placed in a more modern period.

Cinemablend reports that Law was recently on a podcast show, called "Happy Sad Confused," and talked about an idea he had for the third film. While at the time the actor believed that the pitch was a good idea, series director Guy Ritchie thought otherwise.

Ritchie was also a guest on the popular podcast and when asked about Law's idea about time travel, it seemed that the director did not have kind words about it. Ritchie stated that Law has had many good ideas, and some of them were surprisingly really good. However, the idea of time travel for a "Sherlock Holmes" film was not the zenith of Law's ideas.

Apparently, Law's idea of time travel did not fall on deaf ears. If he and Downey's Sherlock/Watson pairing will not be time traveling; it seems another Sherlock/Watson duo will. It has been confirmed that the most modernized version of the "Sherlock Holmes" legacy starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be sent back in time to the Victorian era for a Christmas special.

However, fans of the "Sherlock Holmes" film franchise should not worry. Just because time travel may not be an option, it doesn't mean that the film will not be made. It just means that both Downey and Law will still be made to wear their best Victorian attire.

With no script or complete cast, there is no word on the release date for "Sherlock Holmes 3."
