The iconic spandex donning crime-fighting teenagers are heading back to theaters. Saban Entertainment and Lionsgate Films are remaking Power Rangers for 2017. Although some fans are excited for the reboot, others think the talented band of high schoolers are better left off the big screen.

Movie Pilot's Sergio Anthony detailed five reasons he thinks the reboot will not stand a chance with the audiences of today. His reasoning ranges from the major age differences there will be in the audience to the ...

First reason: Power Rangers Were Cheesy

True. The show and the movie were intended for a young audience. As rumors swirled of a new film on the rise many suspected an older plot line to appeal to the audience of the original series who is now older. However, Anthony explains he would rather the Power Rangers plot line remain intact for younger audience. Keep the cheese and all! Anthony writes, "But what comes with aiming for an older audience is a more mature story or plot, and that doesn't sit right with me." He goes on to say he would not be willing to watch a Power Ranger deal with an adult situation, like a drug addiction.

"The original was made for kids, and it should stay that way."

Second Reason: This is the Superhero/Comic Book Era

It is true. Every other month it sounds like whether is another superhero movie or television show being developed. Just in this past year or two numerous comic book series were revamped to hit the big screen including, a reboot of the Fantastic Four and a second leg of the Avengers. Anthony is quick to note, the crime fighting teenagers are merely high schoolers with a few karate skills, nothing too super about them.

"I feel Lionsgate studios and Saban are trying to take advantage that we are living in an era of movies where super powered humans are in and anything based off a comic book is a win. But the PR [Power Rangers]don't really fit into that category. Maybe if the power rangers were based off a comic book series they could pull it off, but this movie is about teenagers who do karate, nothing super hero about it."

Ouch!

Third Reason: We Didn't Grow Up with Them

As the audience grew older, the Power Ranger's plot lines continued to be written for a younger audience as their former fans grew older.

"I eventually stopped caring about the power rangers. I grew up and moved on to other shows. When was the last time you walked into a conversation about how awesome the PR were. You didn't. Why? Well, let's just say they are more of a conversation ender than starter. It was cool for kids, that's it."

Fourth Reason: They Casted Who?

Lionsgate recenty announced the young cast to take on the role of the power rangers. Most are emerging actors with little credits while breakthrough actresses like "The Martian's" Naomi Scott and singer/actress Becky G.

"If there was any doubt until now this movie is a bad idea, I bring to this courtroom to show to the jury of movie lovers, evidence number one. Not one well-known actor is going to suit up against the forces of evil. Granted I didn't expect an all-star casted to portray the rangers, but are you telling me you couldn't at least get Liam Neeson to play Zordon??" Anthony writes in frustration.

Fifth Reason: What Rating Will You Give It?

Anthony then details the issues with most of the possible ratings the film could receive while trying to interest an older audience.

"PG- you are going to lose much of the adult fan base who don't have children, unwilling to go see something that they enjoyed only as kids themselves," Anthony writes.

"PG13- make the action top notch, throw in some innuendos and keep the cheesy dialogue. Hey if Pirates can do it, so can you," he added."

"R- danger zone, don't even try it. You still have a large audience that is young thanks to the newer and many variations of PR. Plus you lose the charm of the PR with an R- rating"

Lastly he points to the cameos. Which some may find quite amusing, but then again Anthony does not seem to happy about the "cheese" either.

Regardless, the film will hit theaters in 2017, once the trailer is released fans can truly make a decision on whether the film will stink then.
