One device under the Motorola roster which may have long been forgotten is the Moto X. But just the same, such hasn’t stopped Motorola from giving it an Android boost but not to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Instead, The Moto X 1st Gen is getting a (pretty) long overdue Android push to Android 5.1 Lollipop from Sprint. The upgrade is a big leap considering that the Moto X was still running on Android 4.4 Kitkat which seems like it was the Android OS that would start and end with the device.
Just the same, it is better late than never and for the ones who still do have the device. Surely there will be some who are still putting the device to good use though the number of emphatic people rejoicing with the long overdue push may not be that many.
Seeing that most talk nowadays are centered on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, here is a rundown on what Android 5.1 Lollipop brings.
1. Screen Pinning. This feature should come in handy for folks who don’t have to swipe and swipe to get to the app they frequently use. By using screen pinning, you can gain easy access to it each time you access your display screen.
2. Controlled Notifications. One of the things people don’t want to see are annoying notifications that make no sense popping up. With this feature, you can block, prioritize or prevent notifications from appearing when it is in a locked screen state.
3. Hide notification content. Privacy is important and for owners who don’t want others to see incoming message content, this should come in handy. Once you enable ‘sensitive’ display on the phone’s sound and notification settings, the content of the message will be hidden.
4. Easier Search settings. There will come a point where you may want to address a certain issue but are not sure what to do. Search Settings allows you to easily find what it is you need to tweak without worrying about messing up other innocent settings of your device.
5. Battery Saver Mode. Everyone knows the issue tied up with battery consumption on Android and Android 5.1 Lollipop should somehow render some improved battery use. This feature reduces the device performance and other stuff that could be strenuous for your device, allowing you to save and get more power from the phone’s battery.
Given the long list of features that Android 5.1 Lollipop brings, it remains to be seen how a dual-core phone can function efficiently. The phone has been out for two years now so for safety measures, make sure that you backup your important data first before applying the update.
