Are Republicans sore losers?

A new Public Policy Polling survey shows that 49 percent of Republicans believe that last month's presidential election was stolen. By ACORN.

Yes, ACORN, the nonexistent anti-poverty group that was forced to close its doors after a videotaped entrapment by conservative muckraker Andrew Breitbart.

Of course, Breitbart isn't around anymore, either. He's dead. (Also not ACORN'S fault.)

While it may seem a strange questions to ask, PPP was actually doing a follow-up to their post-election survey from four years ago. In 2008, ACORN was still big news, as it was enmeshed in the manufactured scandal that ultimately led to its doom.

Back then, 52 percent of Republicans thought ACORN has stolen the election for Obama. Fotunately, in the last four years, 3 percent of Republicans have wised up.

In addition, this year's survey found that 25 percent of Republicans would like their state to secede from the union, while another 19 percent just can't decide if they want to stay part of the country.

While only 15 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist, and a full 37 percent have a negative view of him, 35 percent still said it was important for politicians to obey Norquist's anti-tax pledge.

The survey didn't only poll Republicans. A full 50 percent of respondents of all political stripes now approve of President Obama's job performance.

But what do Americans know anyway? In a devious turn, PPP asked people their on a completely fabricated congressional bill, and 25 percent of respondents actually had an opinion.

In fact, very liberal and very conservative respondents were the most sure of their opinion: liberals were much more likely to support the imaginary bill, while conservatives were much more likely to oppose it. Makes sense.

Many of the other responses in the survey are pretty typical, and don't show a lot of divergence between Republicans and Democrats. Really, it's just the conservative talking points and the Fox News "exposes" that seem to trigger irrational responses in some Republicans.

Lately there's been a slow realization that living in a bubble isn't helping the Republicans win any friends, or elections. Maybe this survey can drive the point home a little more.
