Xiaomi may have been overtaken by Huawei in the smartphone segment, but that hasn’t discouraged the company from offering well-worth deals, particularly their not-so entry level devices.
Speaking of entry levels, there is one smartphone variant under their wing that has drawn remarkable success – the Xiaomi Redmi 2A.
The said device is one of Xiaomi’s top draws, selling over 10 million units when it first came out in the market. The device offers high specs and priced for an insanely low $78 in the market which is one of the reasons why budget-conscious customers were pretty much interested in it.
For those who are unaware, the original Xiaomi Redmi 2A specs featured a 4.7-inch (720x1280 resolution) display, runs on a Leadcore LC1860 SoC with a quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 8GB of internals storage (expandable through microSD), an 8MP main camera, and a 2MP front-facing shooter.
The phone is dual-SIM capable, runs on Android OS and is backed by a 2200 mAh battery.
And now, Xiaomi has upped the stakes a bit with a special upgrade – doubling the RAM and ROM – with no price increase at that.
Perhaps taking its cue from one of the company’s founders, Lei Jun, the company has ramped up the phone requirements by bumping up the memory from 1 GB to 2 GB as well as the internal storage from 8 GB to 16 GB.
For Lei, these bumped up specs are the ideal ones for users to get the best possible experience. But the best part of it all is that the upgraded Xiaomi Redmi 2A will not even have a price adjustment. It will still be offered at the same price of $78!
For the same price, folks can expect a smoother functioning device with the bump in RAM and ROM which could help spur up some sales for the company as 2015 comes to a close.
While the company may be missing its 2015 sales target, it could be a wise move when one thinks about to make the Xiaomi Redmi 2A model competitive in the coming months.
The Xiaomi Redmi 2A is set to go on sale in China starting Nov. 11 which should draw in folks who missed out getting the original Xiaomi Redmi 2A.
Like the first-gen device, it remains to be seen where else it could be made available, not to mention the ease of getting one considering the first Xiaomi Redmi 2A wasn’t exactly something that was easy to find.
