The roll out for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow continues and the latest device reportedly getting the latest Android update is the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition.

The update was originally expected to roll out as early as October but HTC VP Mo Versi tweeted that some technical issues hindered its scheduled release. And that time is apparently now.

The HTC One M8 thus becomes the first device in the company’s smartphone roster to receive the update beyond HTC One A9. The HTC One M8 Google Play Edition is also the last of its stock which is loaded with a stock Android OS.

With that said, HTC One M8 owners should start getting a notification of the Android 6.0 M update, something pegged to be about 450 MB large. The update is quite large so it would be best to make sure that your device is amply powered (at least 50%) as well as ensuring that you have a pretty reliable Internet connection to boot.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow is of course being rolled out incrementally so for those who haven’t gotten the notification, just give it some time before it does become available.

So what is there to look forward to?

Well one is you can expect a longer-lasting device with the update. This is credited to the Doze feature that comes with the Android 6.0 M, something that detects when the device is idle or not in use. Once it does detect the idle state the feature shuts down the running background apps, accounting for better management of the device’s battery.

Aside from the Doze feature, another notable one to expect is the Google Now on Tap. The feature allows users to return search results based on what it is being looked up on screen.

Other features include the same ones you may have read already. That includes a more detailed on granting permissions by apps, and better support for devices with fingerprint scanners.

And while this should be welcome news to HTC One M8 owners, it remains to be seen which other devices will follow and get the much coveted Android 6.0 M next.

HTC did reveal a list of devices expected to get the Android push but unfortunately the list does not specify when the latest Android OS would actually be expected to roll out.

As with the people eagerly awaiting to apply the update, other HTC device owners may have to wait a bit for their turn to get an Android 6.0 M bump.
