Nokia is expanding their Lumia series with the Lumia 620.

Nokia announced today the "third and most affordable" of the smartphones with the Windows Phone 8 operating system. The Lumia 620 is being touted as "more fun, youthful appeal, and compact design."

"We continue to execute on our strategy to reach new audiences and new markets," said Nokia Smart Devices Executive Vice President Jo Harlow. "With its innovative design, the latest Windows Phone 8 software and signature experiences from Nokia, like Nokia lenses, Nokia Maps and Nokia Music, the Nokia Lumia 620 is a highly competitive smartphone at this price point."

The Lumia 620 will include a screen size of 3.8-inches utilizing ClearBack Display technology. The pixel resolution stands at 800x480 pixels while having an aspect ratio of 15:9.

The rear-facing camera will have five-megapixels with 2,592x1,936 pixels but not with a Carl Zeiss lens as featured in the Lumia 920. The front-facing camera has 640x480 pixels, or Video Graphics Array (VGA).

The video capturing resolution is at 720p, 1,280x720 pixels and at 30 frames per second for the rear-facing camera. The secondary camera will maintain the VGA resolution.

The Lumia 620 will have internal storage of 8GB and with 512MB of RAM. It will also have a microSD card slot for up to 64GB.

When it comes to wireless connectivity, the Lumia 620 will feature Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth version 3.0, and Near Field Communication (NFC).

Battery life for the upcoming Lumia smartphone includes 1,300 mAh battery capacity, maximum standby time of 330 hours and talk time of 9.9 hours for 3G users.

The Snapdragon S4 dual-core 1.0 GHz will serve as the smartphone's processor.

"People can do more of the things they love when they choose a mobile device that has a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor," said Qualcomm Europe Senior Vice President and President Enrico Salvatori. "The Snapdragon S4 Plus processor is the heart of the Nokia Lumia 620, making it possible to multi-task, stream in HD and share content at super-fast speeds."

The Lumia 620 color options include black, cyan, lime green, magenta, orange, white, and yellow.

According to Nokia, the smartphone will begin launching in January 2013 in Asia, "followed closely" by European and Middle Eastern dates. Excluding taxes and subsidies, the Lumia 620 has an estimated price at $249.
