The new Android 6.0 Marshmallow is set to roll out on various devices after it recently debuted. The Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium are expected to receive an update soon.

Android Pit reported that the Xperia Z5 is the company’s flagship model and will most likely be the first to receive the Android M update. The Z5 currently runs on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. Sony is expected to be working on the update at present. However, considering how the Android Lollipop did not become available on the 2014 Sony flagship, Xperia Z3, until 2015, Android 6.0 may only roll out on the Z5 sometime in 2016.

Leakster @Ricciolo1 tweeted that Sony is planning to upgrade its Stamina Mode battery feature.

“#XperiaZ5 #XperiaZ5Compact #XperiaZ5Premium Battery, to become REAL CHAMPIONS, thanks to an “IMPROVED” STAMINA MODE in #Marshmallow #soon.” He tweeted.

One of the strengths of the Xperia series is its above average standby times. The enhanced Stamina Mode is expected to fuse with the new Doze feature on the Android Marshmallow, giving users extra hours of battery life. CNet mentioned that Android Marshmallow is set to provide a variety of features and capabilities that will improve overall user experience and device performance. Some of the notable inclusions are the Now on Tap on Google Now, Android Pay, app permissions and fingerprint support. The OS update also features a redesigned app drawer, USB Type-C support, and greater control options.

In an official blog, Sony already confirmed that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be rolling out on several of its products, namely the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia M5, Xperia Z2, Xperia C4, Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M4 Aqua. The release will be done in stages gradually. A number of spaces for the Concept for Android Marshmallow firmware builds for the Xperia Z3 series is already available to some users. Some might be interested to join the beta.

Venture Capital Post noted that the Xperia Z2, Z3, Z4 and Z5 series may receive the update before the end of 2015. Certain devices may receive the update in January 2016. The update will be available over-the-air (OTA) and via manual installation, similar to previous versions. More updates and details on the Android Marshmallow roll out are expected in the coming weeks.
