The NFL trade deadline has passed and there were not many players on the move. One team that could have made a move were the New England Patriots but no dice.

The thing is the Patriots seem to have the players they need and a trade would have been more of adding more depth to their roster.

The Patriots were reportedly interested in cornerback Jason McCourty, but no deal happened between the Patriots and the Tennessee Titans. The Titans were apparently not too keen on parting with McCourty and the only way that the Patriots would land him was through a tempting deal.

Aside from McCourty, there were other possible players the team would have love to add to their roster.

There is another cornerback in Marcus Cooper from Kansas City Chiefs. Cooper would have been an interesting add though it may take something equally tempting to snag him from the Chiefs. The fact that two cornerbacks, Sean Smith and Jamell Fleming are into their final year puts Cooper on hold just in case the Chiefs lost them.

Another player that the Patriots would have landed is Joe Thomas? Landing Thomas would have been grand only that the Denver Broncos wanted a first and second round pick in exchange. And apparently the Patriots didn’t feel that the trade-off was reasonable.

In all, the Patriots didn’t seem to need more personnel especially since the Bill Belichick had already gotten a couple of players way before the trade deadline.

The Patriots acquired linebacker Jon Bostic from Chicago last Sept. 29 and added tackle Akiem Hicks from New Orleans on Oct. 1.

From Belichick's viewpoint, those were the early bird deals which could have been equivalent to last-minute trades without having to cram.

So in all, the necessary trades seem to have been made way before the cut-off and all that was left for the Patriots was to see who else was available on the trading block that could improve their roster event more.

It was the same case on their end as far as potential offers coming their way.

“We’re always open to discussions,” says Belichick. “I think everybody in the league probably knows that, but our phone lines are open.”

Apparently nothing came following this time for the Pats who had already made seven swaps dating back to August.

It was a totally different scenario this year, the first time that that Pats did not pull off any last-minute trade-offs since 2011.

In 2013 and 2014 season, the Patriots last minute transactions involved defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga and linebacker Jonathan Casillas.
