Gal Gadot officially has her male lead for the scheduled solo "Wonder Woman" film in the form of Captain James T. Kirk himself, Chris Pine.

According to Comic Book Resources, Pine confirmed that he will be appearing in the film, but chose not to reveal the exact role he will be playing. Fans of the Wonder Woman comics believe that the role Pine will be playing is that of Steve Trevor, who has been Wonder Woman's / Diana Prince's on-again off-again love interest over the years.

Screen Rant reports that the "Star Trek" actor is very excited about his role in the upcoming movie, especially because the main role is DC's first super heroine. Pine states that it is an honor for him to team up with such an intelligent, strong and beautiful woman to defeat the forces of evil and save humanity.

With that being said, it is almost safe to say that Pine will be playing a good guy in the film. Again, most sources are pointing towards Steve Trevor. However, there are a lot of other possible characters Pine could be playing.

Since Wonder Woman's origins is very much influenced by Greek Mythology, a lot of Greek Gods are present in the comics. Pine could be playing the role of several of the male gods who have helped the Amazonian Princess over the years. Some examples of these gods include Hercules and Hermes (the messenger god). Another possible character Pine could play, however unlikely, is the King of Gods Zeus, who originally gave life to the clay in which Wonder Woman was molded from.

The film has had its fair share of bumps in the road though: going through a director change and having a hard time finding someone to play Wonder Woman herself. DC comics eventually went with French actress Gal Gadot from the "Fast and Furious" franchises, and Patty Jenkins, best known for her work on the award-winning film "Monster."

Another controversial choice that the filmmakers made is the overall look of Wonder Woman's costume, which has become iconic over the character's long history. The look now entails the heroine sporting long blue pants instead of her iconic stars and stripes outfit. While it is common for filmmakers to change the look of a character, it seems that Wonder Woman's new look has gotten the same backlash as Superman's new outfit in "Man of Steel" and "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice."

"Wonder Woman" is set to debut on June 23, 2017.
