The closed alpha for “Doom” by id Software will officially launch on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at midnight ET, and will continue until Sunday, Oct. 25 at 11:59 pm ET. The game will release in spring 2016.

Bethesda recently provided a trailer to give players some ideas on what to expect during the alpha test. Players will join a 6v6Team Deathmatch on the Heatwave map. They will use a limited supply of six weapons and a couple of equipment. Players may use a pre-set loadout or select a customized loadout on the industrial-themed map.

Bethesda added that there will be various “game changers” that gamers will encounter in the map. VG247 stated that players might find the Demon Rune, which can change the outcome of the battle by transforming one player into a powerful Revenant wielding dual rocket launchers and a jetpack. Other game changers include the Gauss Cannon, which is a powerful weapon that can kill enemies with one blast and power-ups like Quad Damage and Invisibility. The items on the map have certain limits, however. The Revenant will only last for a limited period of time. The enemy who successfully slays the beast can steal the Demon Rune. The Gauss Cannon also has limited ammo. Power-ups will last for a period of time only.

Previously, VG247 featured some of the weapons to expect in “Doom.” Players can wield the Repeater, Plasma Rifle, Super Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Vortex Rifle and Static Cannon. The equipment available are the frag grenade and personal teleporter. These will most likely be the same ones available during the alpha test.

Players who intend to join the closed alpha will test the back-end functionality. Feedback on the gameplay will be observed and id Software will assess how well players engage with servers and the available systems. Through the “Doom” multiplayer alpha test, Bethesda can determine how well the back-end infrastructure can sustain itself.

A beta test is also being planned for 2016. Engadget noted that gamers who pre-ordered “Wolfenstein: The New Order” can have a reserved spot in the beta, but will need to register their code first. Registering will also increase the likelihood of being invited to a closed alpha test. If a beta test happens soon, players expect more weapons, maps and equipment to become available.

More updates and details on “Doom 4” are expected in the following weeks. The shooter game will be playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
