Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Tournament Culminates On Dec. 8; Games Hit iPhone And PS Vita

Street Fighter, despite its age and devotion to 2D, has remained one of the most popular fighting video games of all time. It carries a loyal fan base, and invokes a serious stench of nostalgia among older gamers who can remember arcades and joysticks. In light of its 25th anniversary, Capcom will be holding the grand finale of its Street Fighter competition on Dec. 8, and has also released a couple titles to keep gamers interested.

The Street Fighter finals will be taking place in San Francisco, California on Dec. 8, according to Capcom, and will be pitting opponents from all over the world against each other. Street Fighters who have made it thus far in Capcom's tournament will compete on Dec. 1 and 2 to determine who will be facing off against each other on Dec. 8. 

Competitors will be playing for the gold in Street Fighter X Tekken, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition, and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. 

Capcom also decided to tackle the Apple iOS market by releasing Street Fighter X Tekken for the iPhone and iPad. This mobile version, however, seems to be pretty lackluster. The iOS Street Fighter only allows you to play with Street Fighter's Ryu or Tekken's Kazuya, and randomly switches between them as a single player battles against various computer-controlled opponents. If that doesn't sound like a recipe for fun, it's because it isn't. The game vastly disappointed many, and unless you want to deal with sub-par graphics, controls, and variety, this Capcom Street Fighter offering is not worth any attention away from the classics. 

For those looking for a portable Street Fighter kick, Capcom released Super Street Fighter X Tekken Vita for Sony gamers late last month in October. The game has received relatively positive reviews, and is a solid, portable gaming option for Street Fighter fans everywhere with a PlayStation Vita.
