Although there are rumors that the Android L 5.1.1 may finally be launched on a number of devices, Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Note 2 smartphone model will not be getting an Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

“We don’t like to be the bearer of bad news but the Note 2 will not be getting Lollipop in the UK.” Samsung Mobile UK replied to a user in September 2015.

In May 2015, Samsung Denmark announced that the Galaxy Note 2 N7100 variant will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop eventually, but without providing a specific schedule or date. They stated that the update successfully reached the “in-development” stage. However, the company recently revealed that the Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 2 failed the final testing phase and as a result, will be cancelled. Samsung Denmark stated that the cancellation will be permanent. Samsung Mobile UK also confirmed that the OS update for UK is not pushing forward, as well.

Android Origin wrote that Samsung did not provide a lot of details regarding the cancellation, but there are speculations that the TouchWiz might not have functioned properly with Lollipop on an old device like the Galaxy Note 2. Users can still try using Android 5.0 Lollipop on their device by using the custom ROM approach to download and install the update.

Although the Galaxy Note 2 is out of the list, Yibada reported that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge are expected to receive the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update soon. Mobile carrier AT&T is currently rolling out the OS update to the two devices. The roll out will be done in stages so users may receive notifications at different times. There are also reports that Samsung might feature the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Galaxy Note 4 and Note 5 before 2015 ends. The Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note Edge may also receive the update in 2016.

Based on another Yibada report, LG G3 of Verizon is currently getting the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. The file size is 353 MB with an Android build of LMY47V. Users are recommended to have a full battery and a stable Wi-Fi connection to be able to download and install the OS update. The roll out for LG G3 units will also be done in stages, so users should keeping checking for updates. The new OS update is expected to provide several bug fixes and improvements to user interface and more.
