The last "Sherlock" series aired last year, and fans have been clamoring for another round of the "consulting detective," played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

And now, it appears the makers of the TV series have answered their pleas - a "Sherlock" special is slated to air "soon" and its trailer has just been released.

Cue rejoicing among the Cumber-fans.

"In the chill-inducing trailer - which is really movie-quality - we get a much longer look at Sherlock and Watson in action in Victorian-era England, and a few hints about the thrills to come," Mashable noted. "There are guns, chases, mysterious hooded figures, and, of course, The Hat."

"The stage is set, the curtain rises. We are ready to begin," Sherlock intoned at the beginning of the clip.

"As the clip makes a rather sinister turn, Watson turns to Sherlock and says: 'What made you like this?" MailOnline said.

"Oh Watson, nothing made me. I made me," the detective said as he pulled out a gun.

"The clip ends with Watson handed Holmes his famous deer-stalker hat. 'Why?' he asks. 'You're Sherlock Holmes. Wear the damn hat,' he replies," MailOnline added.

The special is said to be a holiday special that will be released around Christmas. Although no specific date has been officially announced, a Sherlock Countdown account on Twitter said there are 79 days remaining until the special airs.

"It will be around that time of year. I'm not being vague because I'm evil, I just don't know," confessed the show's co-creator, Steven Moffatt.

He also said that the special is not connected to the hotly-anticipated fourth season, or even the previous seasons.

"The special is its own thing," he told Variety. "We wouldn't have done the story we're doing, and the way we're doing it, if we didn't have this special. It's not part of the run of three episodes."

When asked about the fourth season of the series, Moffat hinted that it may likely broadcast in early 2016.

"We have a plan...we practically reduced our cast to tears by telling them about the plan," he teased.

What kind of plan could that be? Is it back-to-back filming of all three episodes for the season?

According to CNET, the recently-released trailer revealed more clues on what the special's plot is all about.

"We do see a glimpse of Mary Morstan -- also known as Mrs. Watson (played by Amanda Abbington) -- standing by John Watson's side in the 221B Baker Street apartment," the entertainment news site mentioned.

Despite the added clues, it's still "not clear if the plot mirrors a classic Doyle tale, or if this is a brand-new adventure."
