The upcoming Microsoft flagship tablet will reportedly have bezels so thin it's only visible from the bottom.

New updates from the Surface Pro 4 rumor mill said that the PC-making company had taken inspiration from Dell's XPS 13 laptop model, which has a thin display frame.

"The bezel will be so thin that it will almost be non-existent on the top and sides and will only be visible on the bottom," sources reportedly revealed, WinBeta noted. "This would suggest that the physical Windows key is either returning to the bottom of the Surface line of products or being removed altogether."

"Perhaps this is why Windows 10's tablet mode makes heavy use of a taskbar for app navigation. Sounds possible," the site added.

What's even more eyebrow-raising is that this is not the only physical feature of the said tablet that will be tweaked.

"There's also word that the device will offer a 'smart frame' that allows the screen size to change dynamically depending on whether the user is in tablet or desktop mode," Digital Trends said. "While it's not specified by the original report, practicality dictates that this would likely be a software feature rather than a hardware component."

WinBeta, however, opined that this rumor is "not so believable" as "this sounds a bit too crazy to even imagine and would involve some truly revolutionary engineering."

"If this "smart frame" is entirely software-based though, that could make some sense," it concluded.

On the other hand, Digital Trends think the idea has "enough logic" to make it a credible one, especially considering that the Surface product line up has been put forward as having hybrid functionality. Its "tablet that works as a laptop" design is an obvious evidence of that.

Since Microsoft has not said a word about its upcoming tablet, such reports should be taken with a grain of salt as these have not yet been confirmed. We'll probably get that confirmation during Microsoft's October 6 event.

Further, it's been reported that the Pro 4 will have two screen sizes - 12 inches and 14 inches. Also, the upcoming product may most likely look similar to the Pro 3 as the company reportedly didn't want to ruin the latter's design.

"Microsoft GM Brian Hall has stated that the next generation of the Surface Pro will be compatible with the Surface Pro 3's accessories, meaning that the Docking station and the Type Cover from the current model will fit on the Surface Pro 4," Phone Arena noted. "We could still see an improved Type Cover for the new slate be revealed on Tuesday, loaded with new features."
