While "Arrow" star Robbie Amell was attending the recently concluded Salt Lake Comic Con, the actor answered a lot of questions from the fans. However, one question in particular sparked Amell's interest, which was if he was interested in playing Terry McGinnis in a "Batman Beyond" movie.
Amell responded to the question that he loved the idea of being in a "Batman Beyond" movie, according to Comic Book. However, Amell did go on to say that another Batman movie might not be in the works as DC comics currently has a lot of plans for the caped crusader.
Cinema Blend reports that Amell states that by the time DC comics gets to the planning stages for "Batman Beyond", he might be too old to play Terry McGinnis and might have to be cast as the older Bruce Wayne character, which for Amell would not be a problem. The actor also states that he would pitch the movie not as a blockbuster, but as a lower-budget independent film type.
Amell goes on to say that this style would be perfect for the environment McGinnis and Bruce Wayne find themselves in: a dark, and gritty future Gotham that hasn't had a Batman for a long time. Amell feels that the effects wouldn't have to be over the top and that the movie could save a lot of budget if the crew used a scaled back approach. However, Amell goes on to say that he doesn't run the studios, so his words don't really amount to much.
For those who are not familiar with "Batman Beyond", the show portrayed a possible future for the Batman character and served as a sequel to the hit cartoon "Batman: The Animated Adventures." The show ran from 1999-2001, and was set 20 years into the future. In this future, Bruce Wayne is an old man whose body can no longer take the strain of being Batman.
After suffering a heart attack and almost breaking his rule of never using a gun during a mission, Wayne says he'll never again don the mantle of Batman. Wayne soon finds a ward in the name of Terry McGinnis, and he trains the young teenager on how to become the Batman.
Currently, DC is still setting its sights on the upcoming "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie and the several sequels Ben Affleck has committed to. Therefore, it could be a while before fans see "Batman Beyond" in theaters.
