‘Star Trek 3’: Release Date, Cast, Plot, Rumors & Everything We Know So Far

Stacked with a new director and a revised script, "Star Trek 3" now has its main villain in the fan-favorite actor Idris Elba.

The newest installment in the Star Trek reboot has been tentatively named "Star Trek: Beyond", and the British actor is quite excited about his role in the upcoming film. In an interview with MTV, Elba states that the writing team, which includes Simon Pegg who is also playing Scotty, have written a very in-depth interesting character that has yet to be seen in the Star Trek Universe.

Elba believes that the work that the crew on the new film is doing is groundbreaking, especially when it comes to his character. Movie Web reports that Elba thinks that the "Star Trek" franchise has prided itself with such classic villains. While many of the villains are the take over the world type, Elba believes that his character has a slightly different twist to it. Elba believes that he will do the series justice by bringing something new while keeping the classic villain tone the series is known for.

The British actor believes that the hard work and dedication that he and the rest of the film's cast will manifest when the movie actually debuts next year.  Elba states that it has been tough doing 18-hour days on the set, but it will pay off in the finished product.

Fans of the reboot of the popular series should note that J.J Abrams will not be directing the next installment of "Star Trek," as the director has gone on to his next project, the highly anticipated "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens." The directors mantle has been passed on to Justin Lin, who is well known for his direction of several of the "Fast and the Furious" movies.

While any detail of Elba's character remains unknown, the rest of the crew of the Starship Enterprise have been confirmed to reprise their role for this film. The film will also serve as a tribute movie to Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the original series and movies and Spoke Prime in the first "Star Trek" reboot movie. Nimoy passed away earlier this year, and the cast and crew saw it fitting to dedicate this movie in his memory.

Paramount recently announced that they have pushed back the release for "Star Trek: Beyond" two weeks from July 8, 2016 to July 22, 2016.
