Tragedy struck the Houston Rockets organization this weekend when the daughter of Rockets coach Kevin McHale died on Saturday.

Alexandra "Sasha" McHale died on Saturday, though no other details were disclosed by the team, ESPN.com reports.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Alexandra, McHale's youngest daughter, has been hospitalized with a condition related to the autoimmune disease known as Lupus.

"Sasha was a daddy's girl," acting coach Kelvin Sampson, who has been acting head coach since McHale took a leave of absence Nov. 10 to be with her and his family, told the Chronicle. "I remember last year during the lockout when we were meeting, she got sick. She was on a study abroad and had to come back. He just talked about her all the time. It's just tough. It's terrible. Terrible, terrible, terrible."

Rockets Owner Leslie Alexander released a statement regarding McHale's daughter's passing on the team's website.

"I extend my deepest condolences to Kevin and Lynn for the loss of their beautiful daughter, Sasha, on Saturday afternoon," Alexander stated. "Kevin and Lynn are loving and dedicated parents who will need our continued support throughout this very difficult time. Our entire organization is mourning the McHale family's loss and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers."

On Sunday during practice, several Rockets players talked about the situation, sending their condolences to McHale and his family.

"It's really tough," guard Jeremy Lin told the Chronicle. "It's a little emotional. Obviously, we all care about Coach a lot. To see what he's going through puts perspective into everything that we're really dealing with or working toward.

"We've had updates pretty much every day or every other day, what the progress was that day, what's coming up or what are the things they're trying to do to make it better. Then everything just kind of happened. We were all praying for him and her and the family."

Houston star James Harden tweeted his condolences on his Twitter page. "Praying for Coach McHale and his family," the tweet said.

Rockets forward Chandler Parsons also tweeted, "RIP Sasha."

McHale, an NBA great and a member of three Boston Celtics NBA Championship teams with hoops legends Larry Bird and Robert Parish, was also a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves as an executive and coach for several years.

"While Kevin was with our organization, we all watched Sasha grow up and become an outstanding young woman," Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said in a statement, according to ESPN. "She will be sorely missed by her family and friends."

Fans of McHale are also posting their condolences to his family on Facebook.

"I want to wish you and your family my sincerest condolences for the loss of your daughter," wrote Ray Stepp.
