There are rumors that the iPad Air 3 is set to launch in the spring of 2016. It is said to have a 4K display and water-resistant features, among others.

The launch date of the iPad Air 3 was reportedly delayed from October 2015 to spring of next year, which will showcase more powerful features than the new iPad Pro which recently released in September 2015.

Talks of Apple dropping the iPad Air 3 began when Economic Daily News, a Taiwanese media outlet, cited Liaoxian Yi, a Fubon Bank analyst, that the tech giant postponed the launch of the next generation iPad Air to focus more on the iPad Pro, which is Apple’s entry in the tablet/laptop market. The iPad Pro was launched with the iPad Mini 4. The company believes that the iPad Air 3 might cannibalize the potential sales of the new iPad Pro, considering that the two devices almost have the same sizes. There might also be issues regarding availability of the products if suppliers are working on three tablets simultaneously.

According to Apple, the iPad Pro is the most powerful tablet it has produced yet, although it may have plans to introduce a more powerful device early in 2016. There are talks that it will be the third generation iPad Air that will top the iPad Pro in terms of features. The iPad Air 3 is said to have a 4K display and an IP rating that provides it with dust and water-resistant features.

Tech News Today revealed that the upcoming tablet will feature a 9.7-ich screen with a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels with 401 ppi. The screen is also said to have an aspect ratio of 4:3. Other rumored specifications include an A9X processor, 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models, an 8-megapixel iSight rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter. The device is said to run on the iOS 9 out of the box.

Tech Radar wrote that Apple fans have also started sharing their wish lists on the next iPad Air. Some of the expected features include a bigger Retina display that would range anywhere higher than 9.7 inches up to 12 inches, an A9 or A9X processor and a slimmer and lighter design. The tablet may have up to 3GB of RAM and a slim aluminum shell.

All these rumors are advised to be taken with a grain of salt, since there is no official word from Apple in the meantime. More news and updates about the iPad Air 3 are expected soon.
