Just a few months ago, the Apple iPhone 5 was released and weeks later the iPad 4 and iPad Mini made their debuts.

However, it seems that the successors are already on their way with the Digi Times reporting that the next iPhone (presumably the 5S or 6) and the next iPad could be released in the middle of 2013 (article has been since changed available for paying subscribers only) .

"Apple is expected to introduce its next-generation iPad and iPhone series around the middle of 2013, which will boost demand for ICs in particular communications-related chips during the latter half of the first quarter," said DigiTimes.

According to the report, two companies have been hired to work on the upcoming iOS devices. They companies are chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and packaging group Advanced Semiconductor Engineering.

Little other news is known about the upcoming iOS devices, though reports earlier in November indicated that Apple had already begun work on an upcoming iPad mini with a retina display.

Apple sold 26.9 million iPhone units and 14 million iPad units in Q4 2012.
