Two-time NBA All-Star Paul George is announced as the cover athlete of MyNBA2k16, the companion app of the world's most popular basketball video game in 15 years, the NBA 2k series.

The Pacers' star, who suffered an injury in August 2014 and who has only returned to court in April this year, says he was grateful of the opportunity.

"I've been a long-time fan of the NBA 2K series and love staying close to the game when I'm on the road. Being selected as the face of MyNBA2K16 is the perfect opportunity to stay connected with the game, as well as represent the NBA 2K franchise," George said in a statement officially released by Take Two Interactive.

Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K, was the perfect choice for the cover. "It was a natural choice to select Paul George as 2K's first-ever cover athlete for MyNBA2K16," Brody said in the announcement. He further explained that the company is "looking to go where our fans are, and with Paul on the cover, MyNBA2K16 will bring the ultimate mobile experience to fans worldwide."

MyNBA2k16 will be available on Oct. 1. It comes free-of-charge on the App Store for iOS devices, including the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It will also be free for download on Google Play Store and Amazon App Store for Android devices.

Being on the cover of MyNBA2k16 is another big recognition for George, NBA.com noted. Despite his long absence for most of the last season because of the injury he suffered in April, the endorsement proved that his brand remains effective, the website stressed. George was also tapped for national endorsements for Papa John's and just recently shoots a new Gatorade commercial.

In July, during a visit to China Pacers, George expressed his desire to win MVP this year. "After being draft into the NBA, I was playing from the bench and then tried to be a starter, then an All-Star. My goal now is set to be MVP. This year, that hasn't changed," George was quoted as saying by the INDYSTAR.

George also shared at the time that his goal for 2015 includes stepping into a leadership role within his team. "As a team leader, you must learn to give more effort than others, the first to arrive every day to the arena, the last one to leave every day," George said.
