The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is about to roll out on the Sony Xperia M2 line. Users of the Sony Xperia M2, Xperia M2 Dual and Xperia M2 Aqua will be pleased to know that the update has been certified so the official release is drawing closer.

The OS update will be released in stages so users may receive a notification at different times. The Sony Xperia M2, Xperia M2 Dual and Xperia M2 Aqua all came with the Android KitKat 4.4.4 out of the box in 2014. Users have been expecting an update to Android 5.1.1 for some time now, Phones Review wrote.

Xperia Blog reported that the Android 5.1.1 firmware for the three handsets has been certified with build number 18.6.A.0.175. This means that for the M2, M2 Dual and Aqua, the Android KitKat will move directly to the Android Lollipop. Usually, the update rolls out shortly after the certification so users expect that the firmware will be available very soon.

In June 2015, Sony promised that they will provide the Android Lollipop update for all smartphones in its Z-series. Reportedly, the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual began getting the OS update in India, NDTV reported.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will primarily address the issue on Stagefright vulnerability. The update will be released in stages in various regions. The official changelog for the Android 5.1.1 update is not available at the moment, but a changelog on Xperia Blog showed that there will be improvements to volume and silent mode control. Other things to expect include integration of LinkedIn with Contacts and Calendar app, improvements in speed and accuracy in superior auto mode, improved enterprise support for Xperia, richer Xperia these, instant calendar events that let users create and share smart events straight from their email, new Settings menu icons and more options for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in notifications menu. The update may also provide support for clicking images with the aid of Sony SmartWatch 3, since users can currently use the SmartWatch 3 as a remote shutter button.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will be released over-the-air (OTA) but it can also be installed manually. Users should check their notifications if the update is already available and begin the download and installation process accordingly. Follow the necessary guidelines for smooth installation.

More updates and details on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop roll out on the Sony Xperia M2, Xperia M2 Dual and Xperia M2 Aqua are expected in the coming days.
