In two months, the upcoming Android version will start coming to mobile devices powered by the Google-designed OS. What makes Marshmallow an update worth the bite?

Doze

Apps running in the background can chip away at your battery reserves and even your gadget's performance. Doze aims to address this issue as it "learns over time and detects when your device is motionless and not being used, so it can be sent into a deep sleep mode," NDTV Gadgets said.

The great thing about this feature is that your device remains on the lookout for essential alerts, like those for calls and messages, while conserving energy.

"Google claims that internal tests have showed double the battery life on standby mode, when compared to Android 5.0," the site said.

Now on Tap

This is your Android assistant that lets you get information anywhere on your Android M-powered gadget. You can call this Android's version of iOS' Siri, as it also lets you do voice-based search.

"Users can simple tap and hold the home button to pull up a query without leaving the app they're in or website. If a friend emails you about seeing a movie, for example, Now on Tap could pull up info like ratings, the trailer or even let you buy tickets," Tech Radar noted.

Auto Backup/Restore

You won't have to worry as much about saving app settings and apps on your device as this feature lets you do just that via Google Drive.

"There will be a limit of 25MB per app, and the backups will not count against your Google Drive storage limits, and are encrypted by default," NDTV Gadgets explained.

Fingerprint Scanner

Google has jumped on the fingerprint scanning bandwagon as this is now a feature in the upcoming Android OS version. This is essential with the introduction of Android Pay as it boosts data privacy and security. This feature can even lock apps, Neurogadget said.

USB-C

This connector enables faster charging (3-5 times faster), and makes the process of plugging in your device an even simpler task as you can do so the other way round, just like Apple's Lightning connector, according to Tech Radar. You can even charge other devices with your Android M gadget.
