There are rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or a next-generation Exynos chipset.

Venture Capital Post wrote that Samsung temporarily ceased its partnership with chipset maker Qualcomm due to the failure of the Snapdragon 810. Previously, there were several complaints about the Snapdragon 810 overheating and throttling. For its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7 (codenamed “Jungfrau”), Samsung is said to either feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or its own next-generation Exynos processor. Android Geeks stated that the company may use Qualcomm chipsets again if it is convinced that clients will not encounter the same problems as before.

For 2015, NDTV Gadgets revealed that several top Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5, were made with 14nm Exynos processors. All these products were powered by the Exynos 7420 SoC.

As for the new quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC, VC Post also revealed that it may include “Hydra” cores, an Adreno 530 GPU, a UFS storage, 4GB LPDDR4 RAM support, Cat.10 LTE connectivity, 4K60 fps encode/decode, and 14nm FinFET technology, similar to the Exynos 7420. It was rumored that Qualcomm will use eight Kyro custom cores, instead of the traditional Cortex-based design. Compared to the Snapdragon, all the new features are expected to boost the 820’s performance by about 40 percent.

Tech Times reported that Samsung has been thoroughly testing the new Snapdragon 820 chipset with its latest devices. So far, the results have been good. J.K Shin of Samsung is considering renewing the collaboration between their company and Qualcomm. If the new Qualcomm chipset proves to be at par with Samsung’s latest products, they might integrate it again in their final output.

Master Herald revealed that the Snapdragon 820 chip may also feature built-in protection by using advanced machine learning algorithms, capable of detecting threats and viruses before these are seen by antivirus programs. There are reports that Qualcomm is working closely with various mobile security app vendors to hopefully add privacy and security features in their devices.

There are also talks that Samsung is planning to release two versions of the Galaxy S7, based on the same report by VC Post. The Galaxy S7 for international markets is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, while the model to be released in South Korea will run on the Exynos M1 chipset. Both devices may run on the Android M 6.0 out of the box.

More news and updates on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and its processor are expected in the following months.
