Fresh from the Video Music Awards, where she wore an edgy black gown, Selena Gomez is reportedly returning to the big screen. The “Spring Breakers” actress will join the cast of Universal and Good Universe's "Neighbors 2," as per Variety.
The "Come & Get It" singer's involvement in the comedy was revealed when a photo of her on the movie’s set in Atlanta, Ga. was leaked, as per Hollywood Life. In the photo, Selena was seen wearing a tight pink bandage dress, leaning in a red Volkswagen Beetle car while an entourage of girls surrounds her. The singer flaunted her curves while wearing feather earrings and having a sleek hairstyle. According to Variety, the photo suggests that she might play a sorority girl in the movie.
Also, Hollywood Life reports that the 23-year-old singer also promoted “Neighbors 2” on Snapchat.
The original movie, "Neighbors," made it big at the box office with $269 million sales worldwide. The story centers on a couple, who moved to the suburbs to raise a family, but everything went upside down when a fraternity moved in next doors.
In "Neighbors 2," sources from Variety speculate that the new neighbors, who will cause havoc to the couple, is a sorority, which Selena's character might belong to.
According to MTV News, the sequel is rumored to be subtitled as "Sorority Rising." There is no official announcement yet of Selena's involvement in the cast roster, but she'll definitely be appearing in the film.
Selena will join other stars such as Chloë Grace Moretz, Zac Efron and Dave Franco. According to Hollywood Life, Zac’s character in the sequel will help out his neighbors.The original cast, Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, are said to reprise their role in the sequel.
As per Variety, Rogen, "Neighbors 2" will under Point Getty Pictures and will be produced by Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver. Andrew Jay Cohen, Brendan O'Brien, Rogen, Nicholas Stoller and Goldberg will write the screenplay. Cohen and O'Brien will be the executive producers together with Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake of Good Universe.
Recently, Gomez shot two films under Paramount Pictures, "The Big Short” and "In Dubious Battle.” A source from ET Online reports that Selena will play a Manhattan professional, but her role might just be a cameo as she was only seen shooting for one day.
"Neighbors 2" will hit the big screen on May 20 next year.
