Asus is releasing a spiky Wi-Fi router, said to be the fastest in the world. The new device also features a very unique look.

AnandTech reported that Asus recently announced the new 802.11ac router, called RT-AC5300U, which used Broadcom’s latest tri-band Wi-Fi chipset and XStream platform concept at IFA 2015. The device was intended to be the company’s flagship router, showcasing AC5300 speeds of 1000Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 2167Mbps on each of the 5GHz bands, totaling a theoretical bandwidth of 5333Mbps.

The XStream by Broadcom features a combination of two discrete 802.11ac radios in one board, which allows two unique channels to become simultaneously active in the 5GHz band. The concept will feature two Wi-Fi routers in one. The NitroQAM / TurboQAM technology by Broadcom also aids in situations with high bandwidth and low latency, provided that the client side includes Broadcom silicon. This means that users can enjoy smooth and fast gaming and video streaming.

The router was first unveiled in a six stream configuration, featuring Broadcom’s second generation 802.11ac chipset. The router was also shown by Asus at Computex 2014. The Asus RT-AC5300U uses the same platform and also has the same features as the DIR-895L AC5300 flagship router by D-Link. The platform is BCM4709, a 1GHz dual-core Cortex-A9-based chipset mixed with three BCM4366 radios. The new Asus router has eight external dual-band detachable antennae. The internal components include 128MB of flash, 256MB of DDR3 RAM and standard features such as the 1x WAN, 4X LAN Gigabit ports, 1x USB 2.0 port and 1x USB 3.0. Other available features include AiRadar beamforming, Multi-user MIMO, Trend Micro’s AiProtection, Tri-Band Smart Connect, Link Aggregation, and AiCloud 2.0.

The new Asus router will be the company’s answer to various rivals, including Google’s OnHub. Boasting of providing the fastest Wi-Fi performance in the world, the RT-AC5300U is said significantly improve user experience. The product has eight antennae laid out in a four-transmit four-receive configuration. According to the company, the router will have improved Wi-Fi range and signal stability that can reach a distance of up to 500 square meters. As a result, users can expect a low-latency gaming experience and very fast 4K/UHD video streaming regardless of their position at home.

The Asus RT-AC5300U is set to become available in the fourth quarter of 2015. There is no news regarding the retail price at the moment. More updates regarding the powerful router are expected soon.
