It is nearly time for the working class people of America to take a day off and rest up or celebrate. Labor Day is around the corner and we've compiled some of the most fun events to hit up in New York City before summer ends. In a city comprised of gorgeous scenery and lively people of various cultures, there is definitely something for everyone one to do this holiday weekend.

For those who love to laugh head over to the Free Stand-Up Festival Kick-Off Party. This Friday at 5pm patrons should prepare to hear jokes from top comics seen on Late Night with David Letterman, Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central, Inside Amy Schumer, Last Comic Standing as well as up-and-comers. The festival, which has an idea conceived by comics and producers Joe Gerics and Andrew Bayroff, runs from Sept. 5th to the 11th. The 14-show festival is spread throughout NYC, Brooklyn, and Queens. However, this Friday's kick off event will be located at the New York Comedy Club at 241 E. 24th St., New York.

Washington Square Park will host an art exhibit on Saturday and Sunday. Take a walk through the exhibits of hundreds of artists selling everything from jewelry and metal work to ceramics and oil works. The event is free and will be held at University Place at 13th St to the West 3rd St.

If you are into something a bit more lively one of New York's premiere music festivals is taking place at Randall's Island Park this weekend. Electric Zoo: Transformed is New York electronic dance music festival featuring the sounds and stellar light displays of numerous chart-topping DJs, including Alesso, The Chemical Brothers, and Above & Beyond. Tickets for this event can be purchased on the electriczoofestival.com.

If you would rather add a Rihanna Carnival-like vibe to your weekend, join the West Indian-American community at their West-Indian Parade and Carnival on Monday in Crown Heights. The seven-hour New York carnival hosts steel-pan and calypso bands while dancers head down Eastern Parkway in down the streets in elaborate costumes adorned in jewels and bright colored-feathers.

Lastly, check out the 21st Great North River Tubgboat Race and Competition kicking of at Pier 84. The water vessels then make their way over to 79th Street Boat Basin followed up by family-friendly activities, including a Popeye-inspired spinach-eating contest. Tickets are available at workingharbor.com.
