Ronda Rousey is set to face Holly Holm this coming November, something that was bumped up after UFC President Dana White found himself in need of a main event after the untimely injury of Robbie Lawler.
Originally, the tiff was set for January, 2016 but Rousey saw no problem fast-tracking the fight that will take place in about two months time.
For her part, Holm knows what she is up against despite being christened as the best striker in the UFC today. Holm wasn’t afraid to admit that she does have a long night ahead of her against Rousey. She however believes that the reigning UFC women’s champ is beatable though it remains to be seen how.
For now, it seems that Holm’s main concern would be to figure out how to last more than a round. Only one woman has so far been able to do that against Rousey – Miesha Tate.
Tate was of course one of the early names mentioned as Rousey’s next opponent. But seeing that the two have already faced off twice in the past with the same outcome, the UFC figured that a new face in the mix could be better.
Speaking of opponent changes, there was also another name thrown in the mix before – Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino.
Justino’s camp claimed that they too were approached for a possible tiff by the UFC this December but White shot down those allegations. Prior to that, White mentioned that Justino will have to satisfy two things first before that could happen:
- Trim down to 135 lbs.
- Fight at least once in the UFC before being considered as an opponent for Rousey.
When Rousey announced that she would be going up against Holm, all speculation on Tate and Justino crumbled. If ever Rousey would face Tate or Justino, it would come after her scheduled fight against Holm, possibly in 2016.
Of the two, however, it is a Rousey vs. Justino fight that many want to see. In fact, Rousey herself says that she may not be at peace until she and Justino face off.
Rousey appeared as a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast saying that her career seems a bit incomplete until she faces Justino. For the record both have been trading verbal jabs and in the same interview, it looks like Rousey wants to get her hands on ‘Cyborg’ before she turns 30 and wind up her career.
“With the Olympics it just like, you win an Olympic gold medal and you’re done. With the UFC, when am I really done? I’m not. It feels unfinished still. (The ‘Cyborg’ fight) definitely would (help).”
Rousey, now at 28, could be hinting that she will be active in the UFC circle for only two years more. That is of course subject to change but seeing that she has been busy in Hollywood as well, her claims could happen.
