You won't be blamed for thinking this bit of news is an April Fools joke. But yes, it's official: Barack Obama, the President of the United States will be appearing on Bear Grylls' show, all in the name of "promoting climate change action," according to the CNN.

"The President will 'trek through the wilderness' with survival expert Grylls, in the special edition of the show, set to air later this year," the news source reported. "Obama will meet with the host in Alaska to observe the effects of climate change on the state and will also explore the Alaskan wilderness while testing his survival skills."

How the President's security team will manage the whole ordeal without influencing his ability to survive in the "wild" or making it too safe is a valid question.

"I will not deny your suspicion that there may have been some suggestions put forward by the Bear Grylls team that were not approved by the Secret Service," said White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, as quoted by USA Today.

"Climate change is a hot-button issue in the US, with many Republicans expressing doubts that human actions are truly influencing temperatures," ABC News observed. "By visiting glaciers and vulnerable fishing communities, Mr Obama hopes to put those doubts to bed, as he tries to build support for an international pact to curb warming."

Mr. Obama's 3-day foray in The Last Frontier will begin Monday. It will also be a historic visit - he will be "the first sitting US president to visit the Alaskan Arctic." Other US presidents in the past merely dropped by the state for a fuel stop.

Grylls' show, "Running Wild," features his adventures with celebrities on trops through the wilderness and coaches them survival skills.

"Grylls is a survival expert and former member of the British Special Forces, who formerly hosted the Discovery Channel show 'Man vs. Wild,'" USA Today noted. "The show is known for getting celebrities to do crazy stunts in wild locations, and recently featured Kate Hudson eating ants and Michelle Rodriguez eating a mouse soaked in her own urine."

Grylls had previously said that the journeys are "not planned too much" and is "rough."

Previously, Mr. Obama had appeared on "Between Two Ferns," a Funny or Die web series. He also appeared on the podcast "WTF with Marc Maron."

How will POTUS fare in the survival trek? We'll know sometime this year when the episode finally airs.
