'It's a boy!' for Charlies' Angels star Lucy Liu.

Named Rockwell Lloyd Liu, Lucy first gave the world a glimpse of her son through her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

"Introducing the new little man in my life, my son Rockwell Lloyd Liu. In ❤️!" she proudly and happily stated in the caption.

In the black and white photo, the 'Elementary' actress can be seen lovingly looking at her son who is bundled-up in a puppy-printed blanket. Matching Rockwell Lloyd's blanket is the chair Liu is sitting on while cradling her newborn son.

Already a mom to a chocolate Labrador named Apple, this is the first child for the film and TV actress generally perceived to be private by Hollywood standards.

Liu's representative confirmed in a statement to DailyMail.com that the baby arrived through a surrogate. However, she did not elaborate in further.

"I can confirm that Lucy Liu is the proud mother of Rockwell Lloyd Liu, brought into the world via gestational carrier," said the rep.

The rep added, "Mom and baby are healthy and happy."

Considered an uncommon option, gestational surrogacy is usually sought when a person cannot carry the pregnancy herself. This is an arrangement where another woman, who is not the biological mother, carries and delivers the baby for someone else, according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

The fertilized egg is instead produced in a lab dish where the egg of the biological mother and the sperm of the biological father are combined.

When the fertilization is successful, the embryo is then implanted to the gestational carrier.

Other celebrities who opted for surrogacies are Jimmy Fallon and his wife Nancy, Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick, and actress Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban, as reported by Live Science.

Before her son came along, Liu has already dedicated herself to the betterment of children's lives by being a UNICEF volunteer since 1994 as per People.

She fondly stated that being the daughter of two Chinese immigrant parents, who are now grandparents to Rockwell Lloyd, helped her value what she had and made her want to reach out to other people as well.

"I felt like they really gave me an appreciation for the care and love we had," she said.

According to an interview with People, Liu has been on many trips around the world, from Lebanon where she learned about the crisis in Syria, to Haiti where she learned about a lack of nutrition.
