Apple's latest smartphones aren't the only handsets tech fans are looking out for this September or October. Google's flagship smartphone, the second generation Nexus 5, is expected to launch sometime during those autumn months.
Previous reports hint that there may be 2 versions of the Nexus 5 (2015). One, made by LG, allegedly has a 5.2-inch screen; the other, created by Huawei, will be of phablet proportions with a 5.7-inch display. The latter is also alleged to be the Nexus 6.
Notably, there has been more focus on the smaller iteration. This may be probably due to the fact that its maker is a more experienced and well-known tech firm that can be relied on to churn out quality electronic products. Huawei is a relatively new player in the mobile industry and still has "plenty to prove," as Know Your Mobile put it.
Recently, it's been rumored that the LG-made handset may cost "between US$300 and US$400, which puts it in the same ballpark as the original Nexus 5 when it was released in October 2013," Android Pit said.
Typically, newer models have a higher price tag than its predecessors. If indeed Nexus 5 (2015) will pretty much cost the same as the first generation version, it looks like it's going to be cheaper than expected.
If indeed the spec leaks of the said smartphone are to be believed, it appears that the upcoming Nexus 5 may not be a considerable improvement from the previous model - which probably explains its estimated price range. This information has not yet been confirmed, though.
According to a leak, the said gadget will come with "a Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 13-megapixel Sony IMX278 rear camera with optical image stabilization," BGR noted. Considering there's a Snapdragon 810 chip and an LPDDR4 memory in existence, it appears odd LG opted for the lesser option for the upcoming release.
Could this be "an indication that Google isn't planning to repeat its 2014 Nexus 6 pricing mistake"?
"The Nexus 5 2015 will focus on meeting user demands more than doing improvements to lesser requested things," Know Your Mobile noted. "As such, we've heard from some developers that the Nexus 5 2015 will not be appealing nor impressive visually, but it will be a powerhouse specifically directed at power users."
Meanwhile, the bigger Nexus handset will reportedly be more expensive and powerful than the 5.2-inch model. It will allegedly have a Snapdragon 820 processor and QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels), among other specs.
