A number of possible next-gen Xbox details have surfaced recently, thanks to a major spread by magazine Xbox World. Many of the features listed are exciting, but a new report has us even more excited. It seems that the Xbox 720 might indeed be the first upgradable console.

Website Product Reviews points to a Microsoft patent that can be viewed online. The patent, it seems, details an internal layout much like a PC, and would allow for consumers to upgrade their console with later, greater specs.

The only problem is that due to obvious compatibility issues with games, the upgradable parts would most likely be issued by Microsoft, Product Reviews points out.

"Those for an upgradeable Xbox 720 point out that Microsoft would control the parts for an Xbox 720, so there shouldn't be compatibility problems, but this could also lead to higher costs for these parts. The bottom-line is if this option were delivered it would give Microsoft a major advantage over the PS4 in our opinion, which is of course based on Sony not going the upgradeable route as well," says Product Reviews.

The current generation of consoles has had a long run, but if the next-gen consoles are going to be upgradable, there's a good chance that console lifetimes will stretch even longer.

On top of this potentially game-changing scenario, Xbox World recently revealed all that they know about the next-gen Xbox system.

Xbox World reports that the Xbox 720, or 'Durango,' will use Blu-ray discs and even have a TV input for recording broadcast television straight to your Xbox, similar to a DVR. The console should also have a quad-core CPU and at least 8GB RAM. A mockup of the image shows the Xbox 720 has having four USB 3.0 ports and a removable hard drive.

The Xbox 720 should also introduce Kinect 2.0 in its full form. Reports about the Kinect 2.0 indicate that it is so precise that it can even lip read.

Does an upgradable Xbox 720 appeal to you? Or would you rather have your home gaming console homogenized so games play the same on everybody's Xbox?
