Fans of the series "Divergent" has been petitioning for the makers of the movie to change the grim ending that the books gave the fans.

However, according to Atlanta Magazine, these fans are sure to be disappointed as the original ending from the books is going to be used in the movie adaption of the popular book series.

For those who have yet to read the books, be forewarned that this article contains spoilers of the ending.

In an interview with MTV, writer of the "Divergent" series, Veronica Roth, confirmed that the ending she intended for her characters in her books will be used in the movies. In her books, Roth writes that the female lead of the series, Tris, dies in a bittersweet self-sacrifice. Shailene Woodley, the actress who plays Tris in the movie series, recently said in an interview that she felt that her character's demise was very fitting. Woodley believes that it was a rush of reality and speaks wonders for the character.

Woodley goes on to joke that no one would expect someone who takes such risks to actually make it out of the story alive. What would readers and fans of the series expect? That Tris and Four survive everything and in the end be hanging out smoking cigars and drinking whiskey, talking about past events?

Currently, there is still an online petition at Change.org for the producers and director of "Divergent: Allegiant" to change the ending or at least make a second ending that would be available on the DVD release of the film.  Currently, the petition has 231 signed supports for a change or an alternate ending to the books. Several passionate fans have even gone as far as writing to the author in hopes that Roth would actually make the change in the movies. These fans believe that Tris and Four deserve a happy ending after all that has happened between them.

Many of the fans of the series believe that Tris is too strong of a character to simply die at the end. While readers of the books have said that they understand what Roth is trying to do, they also believe that moviegoers will simply not understand why the character is simply killed off near the end of the series.

"Divergent: Allegiant Part 2" is set for release on March 24, 2017. Do you think Tris and Four deserve a happy ending? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
