Will Caitlyn Jenner film her documentary series from the comforts of a prison cell soon?

Back in February this year, Jenner had rear-ended a Lexus with her Cadillac Escalade, killing one woman on the spot and injuring seven others. The victim, Kimberly Howe, was the driver of the said Lexus at that time. Her stepchildren had since filed a lawsuit against the former Olympian, citing speeding and negligence on Jenner's part.

And now, months after the incident, Los Angeles County Sheriff detective Richard Curry said that the case will proceed to the district attorney next week "to see if it is worthy of a misdemeanor violation for involuntary manslaughter," as told to the CNN.

"Jenner was driving a black Cadillac SUV on February 7 that was the third vehicle involved in a multiple rear-end collision on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu," the news agency said. "Kimberly Howe, 69, was driving her Lexus when Jenner's SUV hit her car from behind, sending it into oncoming traffic where it was hit by another SUV."

"We did determine in the investigation that Jenner was going at an unsafe speed for the prevailing conditions, even though he was traveling under the posted speed limit," Curry confirmed.

The Los Angeles Times has since noted that "a single misdemeanor manslaughter charge could carry a sentence of a year in jail." However, experts have said that a stint in jail would be "unlikely."

"Basically, anyone can get into this situation behind the wheel like Ms. Jenner. There is no drugs or alcohol involved. This is just unsafe driving," opined Dmitry Gorin, a former LA County prosecutor. "It sounds serious, but as a practical course, these cases are resolved without jail time. These are the type of cases in which the D.A. needs to exercise discretion."

The former Kardashian patriarch had released a statement about the incident after it transpired: "My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy, and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them."

Currently, the reality star has not commented on the case heading to the DA soon. Jenner, however, had told police after the crash that paparazzi were tailing her at the time. She didn't say she was trying to avoid them, though.

"There were also reports that Jenner was on her phone at the time of the crash, something her lawyer has denied," MailOnline said.
