Who will direct the next Star Wars movie is one of the hot topics in entertainment.

A number of helmers have already taken their names off the list for Hollywood's hottest and scariest job but according to producer Frank Marshall (married to Lucasfilms President Kathleen Kennedy) the list is down to "a couple" of directors.

Brad Bird is not on that list. The director of The Incredibles, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, and The Iron Giant tweeted earlier this weekend that he will not work on the next Star Wars movie in a directing capacity. He is slated to direct a science fiction film entitled 1952, but when asked by fans if the film's title was  cope name for Episode 7 he responded with  "It's not Episode VII." and "Nope. A science fiction film. Not Star Wars." He did add "But the science fiction film I AM doing is gonna be cool."

He did also mention his passion for the upcoming film and stated that "Michael Arndt is a fantastic writer and Kathy Kennedy is a brilliant producer. I will be first in line to see the new STAR WARS."

One name still being throw about Is Joe Johnston who directed Captain America:The First Avenger and worked on special effects with Lucasfilm early in his career. Johnston has a relationship with Disney after directing Captain America. This might be a good start for the director, but his experience with Lucasfilm obviously indicates his level of experience working on Star Wars films. Finally, Johnston is not a major auteur filmmaker with a preponderant style. This may work into Disney's plans as they will likely look to retain the majority of creative control and will likely shy away froma director with a major following who would try to impose his style on their project.
