'Resident Evil 6' Spoilers, Release Date, Cast, Plot & Rumors: Is It Really the Final Chapter?

After a decade of waiting, "Resident Evil 6" is finally coming to the big screen.

Stars of the said movie franchise have started shooting in South Africa. The movie will be released in 2017.

In a report published by Crossmap, the movie was supposed to be called "Resident Evil: Rising." Later on, the producers changed it to "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," leaving an impression that this will be the last movie of the franchise.

Crossmap reported that the entire franchise has made a total of US$915,934,664 in the box office. With the upcoming release of "Resident Evil 6," it is expected that the franchise will reach its US$1 billion mark.

Scott Collura of IGN interviewed "Resident Evil" 6 star Ali Larter about her role as Claire Redfield. When asked if it is really the last chapter of the franchise, she said: "I know it is." 

While this will be the last installment of the box office hit series, the actress clarified that she is not disappointed that the series is coming to an end.

"How many movies have this kind of fan base and get to be made six times?" she said. "I think that's extraordinary. It's a total testament to Milla [Jovovich] and Paul. I'm so grateful to them, that they chose me to be a part of it halfway through, and they've kept me along for the ride. I love that it's not seven men and one woman. I mean, these are two women, and they're not competing with each other. You know, there are such easy clichés these two could fall into, but this is definitely a female power movie," she said in an interview with IGN.

She also noted that Resident Evil somehow introduced action films that are female-led, which is not yet a norm in Hollywood. She said it goes to show how things are changing.

The actress, during the interview, did not share much information on the plot of the movie, which is understandable according to IGN. But the "Resident Evil" actress praised the screenplay of the movie.

"I am held to secrecy, but what I can tell you is that the script is amazing. They're really wrapping up the whole series, so that just makes it a little more poignant. To be able to come back and reprise my role as Claire and my relationship with Alice, with Umbrella Corp. -- you know, I'm excited to get back in it," the actress added.

The supposed last installment of the "Resident Evil" franchise will be shown on Jan. 27, 2017.
